Youth Project

Activating our Coast

Why a Youth Project?

The project will provide support and guidance to enable young people to experience volunteering within the community, and to learn new skills, develop new friendships and have fun.

The wider community will in turn benefit from their volunteering activities.

We aim to connect our youth with the community and we believe that we need to start the connection early to build a strong sense of belonging.

Youth Community Engagement

School years 7 – 13

This element of our programme will offer students the opportunity to engage with the community participating in environmental work, social involvement and community activities.

Intergenerational Programme

Intergenerational activities are social engagements and interactions, bringing together younger and older generations to help bring down barriers between different ages and in turn build a more connected community.

They build on the strengths that different generations have to offer, nurture understanding and mutual respect.

Takutai Youth Council

Only open to students residing on the Pohutukawa Coast

Now more than ever community leaders are realising the positive connection between involving youth in community activities.

Youth bring new energy and ideas to many issues often with a different perspective as to how best to tackle challenges and opportunities.

Our new Youth Council will give young people the chance to have their voices heard.

Teens Night

Only open to students residing on the Pohutukawa Coast

We provide a relaxed atmosphere for our young people aged 13 to 17 to come and “hang out”

There is no commitment to volunteer, it is simply a place to relax and have fun.

Free snacks and drinks are provided.
